04 Jan 25, 2006 (newstodate): The first new-built IL-76TD-90VD freighter has now obtained clearance to operate globally after the aircraft type was awarded an ICAO Chapter 4 noise certificate.
The aircraft belongs to the Volga-Dnepr Group that has placed an initial order for two aircraft equipped with modern PS-90a-76 engines and new avionics.
-Obtaining a noise certificate allows the IL-76TD-90VD to operate worldwide, including the major cargo transportation markets in Europe, North America, Australia and Japan without any limitations. From now on these aircraft correspond to all ICAO requirements and can be operated not only within Russia but also in other countries without any restrictions, says Andrei Pakhomov, Volga-Dnepr Leasing General Director.
Over the years, a total of 960 IL-76 aircraft have been built but due to noise regulations implemented by ICAO in 2002, the operation of the IL-76TD in Western Europe, North America, Australia and Japan was prohibited.
