Oct 19, 2006 (newstodate): Part of the Russian Federation, the Bashkortostan Republic has great plans for further development of its Ufa International Airport.
The floor area of its international passenger terminal will be doubled to 11,000 square metres, with handling capacity to increase from 400 to 600 passengers per hour.
In the pileline is also construction of a new railway connection to the airport connecting to the existing city railway system, allowing for both passenger and air cargo transportation.
All projects will be commissioned before the end of 2007.
A decision on the airport's privatisation was made in December 2005, and the airport has been shortlisted to remain among Russia's airport certified for international traffic.
