Feb 28, 2006 (newstodate): With effect from January 19, Lithuania has become a full member of CFMU, Eurocontrol's Central Flow Management Unit, which co-ordinates the allocation of airspace capacity across Europe.
Lithuania joined ECAC in 1992, and has been working with CFMU since 2001, receiving slot times from CASA and following the evolutions through EAG and CFMU meetings.
Last autumn, Lithuania's Air Navigation Services provider, Oro Navigacija handled up to 450 flights per day of which some 80 percent were overflight traffic, mainly between Moscow and the Far East, and Western Europe.
Since 2000, Oro Navigacija has seen annual growth in volumes between 10 and 30 percent, doubling traffic since 2002.
After Ukraine's admission in May, 2004, the CFMU area comprises the airspace of Eurocontrol's member states plus Estonia and Latvia.
