Jun 7, 2006 (newstodate): A JV between Latvian airline Concors and SR Technics, the new MRO facility at Riga International Airport is already negotiating with a few Russian and CIS operators to serve as launch customers from this autumn.
The hangar currently under construction will accommodate three narrow-body aircraft, Boeing 737 or Airbus 320 family, and comprises 6,700 sq.m with 2,000 sq.m additional Repair Back Shop. Also included in the current building program is a separate two-storey 3,000 sq.m warehouse for aircraft spare parts.
-Initially our activities will focus on base maintenance for Boeing 737 aircraft, but we will expand our competence to comprise the Airbus 320 family later on. After acquiring the necessary experience and credentials, we will start D-checks and overhaul of some components like sheet metal, composites, wheels and brakes, batteries etc, says Sergey Ratnikov, Concors president.
-It is of course difficult to make a precise forecast about our annual capabilities at this stage. We will commence with one operational bay and will have up to 70 personnel, including about 50 mechanics and technicians, and the number will grow to 250-300 people in two-three years time when all three bays will be utilized, he says.
-Despite our current marketing policy is concentrating on the Eastern Market, we have already had many positive contacts with a number of Western Carriers for the last two years.
