Aug 11, 2006 (newstodate): Air cargo volumes at Vienna Airport are on a steep increase, mainly driven by imports to markets in Eastern Europe.
In total the airport generated 151,735 tonnes of cargo during January-July, up 20.1 percent, y-o-y.
-The growth is especially in imports from the Far East to destinations in Slovakia and the western part of Hungary, says Robert Dusek, Vienna Airport corporate communications.
-The shipments, mainly of car spares and electronics, are destined especially for the many automotive plants in Eastern Europe, he says.
-We cannot of course know if the significant increase experienced so far this year will continue at the same high level, but we do indeed foresee a sustained growth in imports, while export volumes are stable and expanding less markedly.
Among the cargo airlines serving Vienna are Korean Air Cargo, Asiana, EVA Airlines, and Emirates SkyCargo.
