Jan 22, 2007 (newstodate): As part of the agreement with USA over Russia's proposed entry into the WTO, a reduced aircraft import tariff scheme has been presented.
According to sources, import tariffs on aircraft up to 50 seats will be reduced by eight percent, while import tariffs on aircraft with 115-160 seats will be reduced by 10 percent.
The planned reductions will remain in force until 2011 and apply to western-built aircraft on lease periods up to three years.
The planned import tariff scheme thus does not benefit importers of larger aircraft and falls short of meeting Russia's acute needs for a thorough revamping of its ageing airliner fleets.
