Jul 30, 2007 (newstodate): The reopening of Serbia's Uzice-Ponikve Airport, slated for this summer, will be delayed.
Eight militaray aircraft have reportedly been located, buried in an area close to the runway system, and this will affect the planned operations.
Also the 3,200 m runway will need widening, and airfield lighing systems and navaids are still not in place, sources say.
Reconstruction of the airport that was heavily bombed during the civil war started in July, 2006, with EU investing 124,000 euro.
Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport is investing heavily in the project that will also aim at making Uzice-Ponikve Airport a major cargo hub in western Serbia.
