The airport is constructing a new 4,800 m runway expected to be completed by the end of this year and allowing the airport to handle today's largest aircraft.
The airport is also constructing a new passenger terminal with an annual capacity of three million passengers.
The projects are financed by the regional government that has dedicated UDS350 million to the modernisation of the airport.
The projects have been designed by the British company Scott Wilson group.
