Sep 18, 2007 (newstodate): The Sukhoi Superjet 100 is attracting interest among western airlines.
-The SuperJet 100 is indeed an interesting aircraft, and we always welcome competition among the world's aircraft manufacturers, says Kurt Kuhne, SAS VP Fleet Planning.
-Provided the Russian manufacturer plays the cards well and assures the world's airlines that it will be able to provide efficient support, the SuperJet can have a bright future.
-Russian engineers hold a high reputation in the aviation industry, and the fact that most of the critical systems and components are well-known western brands is most reassuring as well.
-The SuperJet will inevitably experience its share of teething troubles upon its introduction into commercial service, but it remains a most interesting alternative, also considering a highly competitive pricing, says Mr Kuehne that will retire from his position shortly after many years with SAS.
SAS will soon have to make a decision on a successor to its MD-80 fleet, counting 44 units.
