Dec 4, 2008 (newstodate): In a surprising move, Danish carrier Cimber Air has announced the acquisition of Sterling that filed for bankruptcy in November, 2008.
According to Cimber Air, the acquisition of Sterling will consolidate the carrier's position in Denmark's domestic air services, and strenghten expansion of Cimber Air's European route network.
From January, 2009, Cimber Air will add two larger aircraft to its current fleet of aircraft to provide capacity during daily peak hours, with smaller aircraft providing capacity to fine-tune frequencies.
In a longer-term perspective, Cimber Air plans to acquire six or eight new larger aircraft in order to expand on a European scale.
Cimber Air's acquisition of Sterling's activites including brand, AOC and slots does not comprise Sterling's fleet of leased aircraft or staff.
