Feb 6, 2008 (newstodate): The country's first privately-owned airline, Somon Air launched flights between Dustanbee and Moscow on February 5, bringing competition to Tajikistan's aviation industry.
The carrier, managed by Mirzo Mastangulov, starts out with one Boeing 737-800 on a wet-lease from a Turkish company, but plans are to continue on a dry-lease basis as Tajik cockpit and cabin crews complete training.
More aircraft will be added during 2008, and beside the services to Moscow new destinations will include Istanbul, Dubai, Almaty and Urumchi.
