Jun 25, 2008 (newstodate): Russian aircraft manufacturer Sukhoi is upbeat about the future with the Superjet 100, targeting 15 percent of the world's regional passenger aircraft market by 2024, emerging as a fierce competitor to Bombardier and Embraer.
The company plans to attain the goal jointly with Italy's aerospace engineering corporation Alenia Aeronautica that is part of the team behind the new aircraft.
Sukhoi has also revealed plans to develop cargo and business-jet versions of the Superjet 100.
In a freighter version, the SuperJet-100 will have a capacity to lift up to 15 tonnes on short to medium ranges.
Sukhoi plans to produce 30 SuperJet aircraft in 2009, and 60 in 2010, after which the manufacturer plans to reach its optimal production capacity of 70 aircraft per year.
