Sep 26, 2008 (newstodate): Baltic Cargo Center at Latvia's Riga Airport is seeing brisk business opportunities after completion of the airport's on-going construction projects.
Expanded only two years ago, BCC now operates a 1,600 sq m cargo terminal with a capacity to handle 10-11,000 tonnes of cargo a year, and implemented a neutral data processing system, Cargospot, in 2007 to enhance operational quality.
-Riga Airport has grand ambitions, and we hope new opportunities will emerge by next year after the extension of runway is completed, says Olegs Korshe, BCC general manager.
-Also, the planned construction of a new passenger terminal building, particularly a new pier, could influence our life. If it materialises according to current plans, BCC could move to a new location with even more cargo handling capacity in only a few years, says Mr Korshe.
BCC statistics covering this year's first nine months show an increase by 18 percent, y-o-y, in cargo and mail volume handled, reflecting a growth in transit volumes by 48 percent, y-o-y.
