Oct 22, 2009 (newstodate): Icelandic carrier Primera Air denies rumors in the Icelandic aviation circles that is in a process of sale to another party.
-It is basically not true. Times are tough for any airline, passenger volumes have gone down, but our group has been doing well especially in Scandinavia, and we have managed to turn around the airline to become today a profitable carrier, says Jon Karl Olafsson, Primera Air CEO.
-What is true, however, is that we have indeed been in talks with not one or two, but several airlines over potentials mergers or other deals. Which is indeed quite normal for airlines to do. Also we have ourselves been looking at potential acquisitions, so it works both ways. We all get many proposals over time without necessarily acting on them.
According to industry sources, Primera Air should be in talks with a yet-unidentified Central European carrier that would take over the airline's fleet of five Boeing 737-800 and one Boeing 737-700, two of which are based in Denmark, soon to increase to three, and three in Sweden and Ireland.
Primera Air provides wet-lease operations, both ACMI and full charters, and operates under both a Danish and an Icelandic AOC.
