Oct 14, 2009 (newstodate): The Swedish cargo operator Nord-Flyg received its first converted Q400-PF Package Freighter on January 16, 2009 - but while the aircraft has performed without any flaws, the timing was obviously not good.
-We are indeed finding it difficult to secure longer-term contracts for the aircraft because of the generally poor market where capacity abounds, says Ulf Darenius, Nord-Flyg CEO.
-We have performed several ad-hoc charter operations with the aircraft that has proved its excellent performance, and we have recently been operating the Q400 aircraft at Leipzig for a trial period with DHL Aviation. Hopefully this will translate into a longer-term contract, and in the meantime we are bidding in several tenders, says Mr Darenius.
Nord-Flyg still has options for more ex-SAS Dash8 aircraft for conversion into freighter versions, but times do not exactly warrant an immediate expansion of the fleet at Nord-Flyg.
