Nov 05, 2009 (newstodate): Sweden's Stockholm Arlanda Airport reports the first and early signs of recovery in its airfreight volumes by September, 2009.
-We have experienced a line of months with roughly unchanging volumes, but at least we have now seen a slight volumes increase in September by 5.2 percent over the preceding month, to 11,300 tonnes, says Sara Wedin, FLV Group account manager air cargo.
-September was, however, still down 30 percent, y-o-y.
-While we expect this to indicate that the negative trend may have eased somewhat, recovery will probably be rather slow.
-For the first nine months of this year the total volume is down 33 percent, y-o-y, to 95,500 tonnes, flown and trucked cargo included.
-The statistical comparisons are, however, not too enlightening as the corresponding period in 2008 was atypically booming in volumes. From now on, we will be able to see how we are actually performing in 2009, compared to similar months in 2008, says Ms Wedin.
