Feb 11, 2009 (newstodate): SAS is now taking steps to reduce its intercontiental route network as part of its Core SAS cost-cutting program.
The carrier has reportedly informed selected executives in the Danish travel industry about its decision to axe flights from Copenhagen to Seattle, USA, from the start of this winter's program in October, 2009.
The destination has been served by SAS for 40 years, and SAS was long alone in providing direct flights between Europe and Seattle.
More reductions of SAS' intercontinental flight program may be expected as the carrier plans to ground two of its Airbus A330/340 aircraft.
Other sources, however, claim that the stop of services to Seattle is so far only a suspension during the winter schedules, with the option of returning flights from next summer program.
