Feb 5, 2009 (newstodate): Hungary's Malev is again strengthening cooperation with Russia's Aeroflot.
The two carriers have reinforced a code-share agreement on flights between Budapest and Moscow, and in consequence of the ever closer ties between the two airlines, Malev will leave Moscow Domodedovo and return to Moscow Sheremetyevo, Aeroflot's Moscow hub.
On March 30, 2008, Malev Hungarian Airlines moved its Moscow flights from Moscow Sheremetyevo to Moscow Domodedovo International airport to cooperate closer with KrasAir that held a strong stake in the Hungarian carrier.
After the collapse of KrasAir and AiRUnion in late 2008, the stake in the Hungarian carrier was transferred to a Russian bank in cooperation with Aeroflot, now bringing about the return of Malev's Moscow operations to Aeroflot's hub.
The EU commission is currently in talks with Malev to ensure continued adherence to the ownership conditions for retaining the carrier's EU designation.
