Apr 24, 2009 (newstodate): Hungarian carrier Malev has decided to stop operations from Budapest to Yekaterinburg in Russia's Sverdlovsk region.
The airline will cease the operations from May 13, 2009, also closing down its office at the destination.
The airline cites shortage of aircraft capacity as being behind the decision, but sources say the underlying cause is rather its changed situation after the new Russian ownership was introduced, leading to a re-assessment of the airline's strategy for Russia and CIS.
Malev opened the route to Yekaterinburg on June 32, 2004, with two weekly Boeing 737 rotations.
