May 19, 2009 (newstodate): Finland is no exception to the general world of air cargo, but at least there may be signs that the downward slide is leveling out.
-It is certainly too risky to speak of any "recovery", but it might look as if the problems are leveling and that volumes are not dropping further, says Anders von Bell, WACO Finland managing director.
-Finland's export airfreight has definitely performed better than imports and have kept rather stable, while import volumes have dropped significantly.
-Consumer goods are still coming in by air, albeit in smaller volumes, but especially capital goods imported by Finland's industrial companies have decreased. Obviously, importers in this sector have been cautiously monitoring demands in the world markets and are not prone to invest much under the prevailing uncertainty.
-It is difficult to predict if we are really past the low ebb. The situation may still change to either side, but it is probably safe to state that 2009 will hardly end up to be a good year, says Mr von Bell
