Jul 28, 2009 (newstodate): The Russian government is prepared to take further steps to relieve the pains of its ailing airline industry.
As a latest move the government plans to waive import duties and VAT on imported freighter aircraft that do not have Russian-built alternatives.
Import duties and VAT now adds about 40 percent to the price on imported western-built freighters.
Among the types of freighters that may be imported under the coming regulation are Boeing 747 freighter variants such as already operated by ABC Airlines, but Boeing 747 combi aircraft will also qualify for import tax and VAT exemption, sources say.
The new regulation may also benefit the planned further intake of MD-11F aircraft by Aeroflot-Cargo
