Sep 14, 2009 (newstodate): The Serb carrier is reportedly close to a decision on acquisition of new, much-needed aircraft.
The carrier will place an order for four or five Boeing 737 aircraft after final negotiations these days in Belgrade between a Boeing delegation and JAT management, sources say.
If JAT eventually decided in favor of Boeing aircraft to update its aging fleet, the carrier will probably lose the last chance for reclaiming in some form a 24 mio US dollars deposits on Airbus aircraft.
In 1998, JAT inked a contract worth USD 400 million with Airbus for the purchase of eight A319 aircraft and paid USD 23 million up front in a political decision by the former Milosovic government.
Ever since the issue has been a hot topic between JAT and Airbus that will only renegotiate a solution in connection with a fresh aircraft order.
