Sep 30, 2009 (newstodate): Given the current market situation, the Swedish regional carrier Skyways is satisfied with the performance of its route between Sweden and Lithuania, in the air since June, 2009.
-We are operating two daily flights, excepting Saturday, between Stockholm Arlanda and Vilnius, Lithuania, with satisfactory load factors, and as the flights are code-shared with SAS we have significant volumes of passengers transferring at Stockholm Arlanda to international and even Swedish domestic flights, says Peter Browall, Skyways CEO.
-We are currently awaiting the outcome of negotiations concerning the future cooperation between SAS and airBaltic as this will have a strong bearing on our visions for setting up flights between Vilnius and Copenhagen as well, as earlier planned.
-If warranted by the situation, we would certainly open traffic on this route as well, and based on the experience from our flight operations at Vilnius and the strong response we have met in this market, we feel well-positioned to take up the challenge. Potentials are indeed abundant.
In a longer perspective, Skyways even has plans for flights from Vilnius to Amsterdam and Berlin, but this will of course depend on the outcome of the SAS/airBaltic negotiations, as well as on a general recovery in the air transport market.
