Sep 18, 2009 (newstodate): In the air only since July 29, 2009, between Dushanbe, Tajikistan, and Frankfurt, the privately-owned Tajik carrier Somon Air is a late-comer to the European air cargo scene.
-So far the payload on the carrier's weekly Boeing 737-800 service is very limited, but there is a potentially high demand in the market as Frankfurt is the only European airport with direct non-stop services to Tajikistan, says Klaus Lederer, Aircargonet International CEO, serving Somon Air as its GSSA.
-Since its start, the route has mainly carried transit passengers and air cargo from the USA filling the cabin and the cargo belly. But as the service gains confidence and becomes known in the cargo community, its potentials will attract increasing volumes of European cargo, says Mr Lederer.
