Nov 29, 2010 (newstodate): A growing risk of union strikes in Finland tomorrow that will lead to severe disruptions of air traffic has led the SAS Group 's Finnish carrier Blue1 to take precautionary measures.
-We have signed dry-lease contracts with a number of carriers including Jet Time, City Airlines, Atlantic Airways, DAT and Augsburg Airlines to be in a position to cope with the situation if the strike really takes effect, says Tom Christides, Blue 1 VP Corporate Communication & Government Affairs.
-At the same time, our own schedule of delivery of Boeing 717 aircraft is running a bit slow. We have currently three Boeing aircraft in operation, and the fourth aircraft now delivered will still require some ten days of preparations to be put into operation.
-The recurrent strike actions from various unions pose a sad challenge to the entire aviation business in this country. Out economy is recovering, but strikes that hinder the commercial relations and free flow of people and goods are indeed detrimental to a sound development, says Mr Christides
