Dec 10, 2010 (newstodate): Sweden's Orebro Airport is reaping its share of the general upturn in the country's air cargo growth in 2010.
-We expect to land around 25,000 tonnes of cargo handled at Orebro, representing a growth by 25 percent compared to 2009, says Michael Smedberg, Orebro Airport managing director.
-What is even more encouraging is the fact the proportion of flown cargo has increased by 60 percent.
-Orebro Airport has handled about 110 cargo charter operations, with uplift of especially automotive and electronic shipments, but relief operations to Haiti and Pakistan have also contributed significantly to this year's growth, says Mr Smedberg.
While 2010 has proved a year of growth in volumes, it still remains to beat the peak in 2007 when the airport handled more than 30,000 tonnes of cargo. Earlier, trucked cargo constituted about one-third of the volumes.
Cargo operations at Orebro started in 1996, and the airport is now among Sweden's major regional cargo airports.
