Feb 15, 2010 (newstodate): US requirements on perishables air cargo shipments entering the country's airports from June 2010 will put further pressure also on Norway's exports of fresh salmon.
As part of the new TSA requirements on cargo, all shipments of perishables must 100 percent screened prior to arrival at US airports.
The carrier is held responsible for flying in only shipments that adhere to the regulations, but the screening process ifself can be performed either by the shipper or the airline.
In both cases, the process will necessarily require an earlier cut-off time for the forwarders' delivery of the shipments.
The screening process of seafood requires the boxes to be free from moisture to ensure accurate testing results, creating a further issue to be tackled.
