Apr 28, 2010 (newstodate): Several plans for new full-freighter services between the Nordic markets and the Far East and the USA are shrouded in uncertainty.
The Korean Air Cargo freighter service from Sweden's Luleaa Kallax Airport to Incheon, Korea, launched in January 2009 has been suspended since November 2009, and despite repeated assurances by Kallax Air Cargo, Korean Air Cargo is not expected to return.
Lately Cathay Pacific Cargo has been monitoring the market to verify potentials for reviving the service, but a spokesman from the company denies that any conclusion has been made.
Another Swedish group, Air Navigare Cargo is currently also preparing for launch of a similar freighter service from Luleaa Kallax Airport, but while April was earlier cited as a target for start of services, the project remains delayed and no fresh date has so far been announced.
In Norway, the US-bound freighter service Sundt Atlanta Skybridge took to the skies from Oslo on December 5, 2009, but has been suspended since March 17, 2010, and while mid-May was earlier set for the re-introduction of the two weekly rotations this has now been pushed further back while a change of partnership seems to be lurking.
While the legacy carriers Korean Air Cargo and Singapore Airlines Cargo remain settled in the Scandinavian markets, the latest promising news seems to be the Russian freighter carrier AirBridgeCargo introducing twice-weekly Boeing 747-400F freighter services from Malmo Sturup Airport, in southernmost Sweden, to Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow from this month.
The Nordic market is now awaiting the final decision, long pending, by Finnair Cargo to launch new freighter services from Helsinki to destinations in the Far East to further boost the carrier's successful performance in the cargo market.
