Jun 01, 2010 (newstodate): ACI EUROPE statistics for the first quarter of this year are ranking Lithuania's Vilnius International Airport as one of the fastest growing airports in Europe.
The volumes of flights at the airport was up by 24.5 percent, y-o-y, overtaking the growth at Latvia's Riga Airport, 11.1 percent, and Tallinn Airport, Estonia, that actually dropped 3.4 percent, y-o-y.
Taking the actual volumes into consideration, the picture is however slightly different as to size of business at the three Baltic airports.
During the first quarter of this year, a total of 5,863 flights were handled at Vilnius International Airport, while Riga Airport saw 13,912 flights, and Tallinn Airport 5,968 flights.
The real picture is thus that traffic is now finally returning at a fast pace at Vilnius International Airport that saw its air services almost coming to a halt after the demise of its national carrier, flyLAL from January 17, 2009.
