Aug 06, 2010 (newstodate): Estonia's Tallinn Airport will see the opening of a new handling service provider from November 1, 2010.
The Latvian handling provider North Hub Services has from its launch in 2009 declared intentions to provide handling services not only at its home base at Latvia's Riga Airport, but to a range of major airports in and near the Baltic region.
As a first step along this strategy, North Hub Services entered the Finnish market with a new company set up at Helsinki Vantaa Airport from July 1, 2010 - and airBaltic has now announced its decision to introduce self-handling at Tallinn Airport, which implies handling by North Hub Services.
Originally NHS intended to launch operations at Tallinn Airport already from June 1, 2010, one month before the opening at Helsinki Vantaa Airport - but soon found that this would be overstretching its resources.
In 2009 Tallinn Airport handled a total of 1.3 mio passengers, down from 1.8 in 2008, and the airport's general manager has earlier stated that the airport will stick to the EU ruling where the handling market is only required to be opened as passenger volumes exceed two mio per year.
