Aug 20, 2010 (newstodate): Plans are underway for construction of a new airport in Serbia.
The plans build on the existing Serb military air force base Kraljevo-Ladevci Airport in Svaneti, a province in the northwestern part of the country.
The Serb government and the regional authority have agreed to reconstruct the base into a new commercial airport, and USAid has pledged to support the project financially.
The military base was bombed during the civil war in the 90'ies, and the new airport will need construction of a new ATC tower, a runway extension by 250m to 2.500 m, as well as a new passenger terminal.
Construction works will start on the new ATC tower before the end of this year already, and it will be followed by the runway extension works.
The existing military airfield will be split into a military base retaining the name Krajelvo-Ladevci, and the coming civilian airport, to be named Morava Airport.
