Sep 20, 2010 (/newstodate): Is the Latvian carrier airBaltic really a low-cost carrier?
At least the World Low Cost Airlines Congress thinks so as it has nominated airBaltic as one of the Top 5 low cost airlines in the world for The Budgies World Low Cost Airline Awards.
The other four nominees are Tiger, AirAsia, Ryanair, Spicejet, and Air Arabia.
In a comment to this nomination, the carrier's CEO & President, Bertolt Flick himself describes airBaltic as "a unique hybrid business model integrating the features of network carriers and low cost airlines" and attributes the airline's success to "successful restructuring and focused management".
