Sep 15, 2010 (newstodate): Rosavia, once poised to become Russia's new mega-airline to compete with Aeroflot for a dominant position, has now filed for bankruptcy at a court in Moscow.
Roasavia was designed by the State corporation Russian Technologies to be centered upon Atlant-Soyyz and augmented by the inclusion of a number of airlines that were formerly part of the now-defunct AiRUnion, including Rossiya, Kavminvodyavia, Orenburg Airlines, Saratov Airlines, Sakhalin Airways, Vladivostok Airlines, Dalavia, KrasAir, Domodedovo Airlines and Samara.
But in February 2010 the Russian prime minister decided to scrap the plans, letting instead Aeroflot take over the assets of the airlines while Russian Technologies will facilitate the leasing agreements covering the aircraft ordered.
