Oct 10, 2011 (newstodate): Driven by its current financial situation, the Latvian airline airBaltic is trimming its route network to focus on more profitable destinations.
One destination to go is Tromso, above the arctic circle in Norway, with the last flight from Riga Airport on October 29, 2011.
The route was opened on March 31, 2009, as the carrier's fourth Noregian destination after Oslo, Bergen and Aalesund.
More route closures are expected as airBaltic announces its schedule for the coming winter season.
After airBaltic's pull-out, Tromso's only international air connections will be to Arkhangelsk and Murmansk, in Russia, operated by Nordavia.
