Nov 30, 2011 (newstodate): Tomorrow, December 1, 2011, will see the launch of Swissport Finland, at Helsinki Vantaa Airport.
Finnair has contracted Swissport to provide baggage and apron services at Helsinki Airport in Finland under a five-year contract, replacing its current provider Barona Handling.
While Finnair will provide the bulk of the traffic to be handled by Swissport, Swissport Finland will also take over also the handling of other airline customers including Aeroflot, Ukraine International Airlines and a number of charter carriers.
Managing Swissport Finland will be Claude Badan, CEO, formerly Swissport Bulgaria CEO, and the new company will start out employing some 500 staff at Helsinki Vantaa Airport.
-Airline hub management is a prime business target for Swissport, and the new operation at Helsinki will become our first oneworld hub contract, says Mark Skinner, Swissport VP Business Development and Projects, Division Europe, Asia, Africa and Middle East.
-The new opening in Finland comprises only ramp handling, but we hope to expand into passenger handling as well within the coming six months, and while our focus will be on Helsinki Vantaa Airport to build up quality in service, we cannot preclude adding operations at other Finnish airport at a later stage, says Mr Skinner.
