Near to the end of 2011, the Etihad announced its decision to place orders for a further 10 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft on top of its order for 31 aircraft, securing its position as the future largest operator of this type of aircraft.
The carrier will take delivery of its fleet of Dreamliner aircraft during 2014 and 2019, and still holds options for a further 25 aircraft.
The latest order from Etihad bring the total number of Boeing 787 aircraft booked to 835.
Also in the Gulf region, Emirates reigns supreme when it comes to orders for the Airbus A380 aircraft.
The carrier has placed orders for a total of 90 Airbus A380, 19 of which have already been delivered.
At Airbus, the volume of firm orders on the A380 now stand at 243 aircraft, 64 of which are already in commercial service with seven operators.
