Feb 08, 2011 (newstodate): A new transport venue for imports of Chinese goods into Russia has now been opened.
The new option is a railway cargo line originating at Chongqing in southwestern China, passing through Urumqi in Xinjiang and crossing Kazakhstan on its route to Moscow, an 8,120 km journey performed within 11 days.
In March 2011, the route will be tested for onward expansion from Moscow to Duisburg, Germany, and if this proves successful the new China-Russia-Europe cargo train connection may prove a competitor to today's more expensive airfreight solution.
