Feb 08, 2011 (newstodate): The Danish ground handling company Novia is carefully planning for a return of services in the Swedish and Norwegian markets.
In 2008, Novia sold its ground handling companies at Sweden's Stockholm Arlanda and Gothenburg Landvetter airports to Menzies, retaining only its ground handling company at Malmo Sturup Airport.
-We are now looking into a business case for Stockholm Arlanda and Gothenburg Landvetter as well as, at a later stage, Norway's Oslo Gardermoen Airport, says Lars Thuesen, Novia Chairman of the board as well as a major shareholder in the company.
-Once we strike, we are certainly to introduce a full handling services package, also considering cargo, but our visions do not stop at this.
-Companies are increasingly out-sourcing parts of their service portfolios to partners, and airlines are buying all sorts of products and services at airports. Our vision is to consider carefully and without any restrictions all possibilities for integrating such out-sourcing potentials within our scope of business to come up with a service offering that goes well beyond the traditional concept of a ground handling service provider.
-By this concept we will make inroads into a highly competitive market, and it will also enable us to build up a critical mass needed to ensure a profitable business.
-By going beyond traditional borders we will be able to optimize the use of workforce that is otherwise tailored to meet peak hour demands while standing idle between these periods. This will in itself contribute significantly to the profitability of operations.
-As said, we are in no haste and have not set any specific launch date for our re-entry into Sweden. But we are determined in our efforts, and one Novia representative, Claus Poulsen, formerly managing our Swedish companies, is already based at Stockholm Arlanda to drive the process, says Mr Thuesen.
