Jun 01, 2011 (newstodate): Growth rates in cargo volumes at Denmark's Billund Airport fell to more normal levels in May 2011.
A total of 5,615 tonnes of cargo was handled, an increase by 5.1 percent, y-o-y, including 2,676 tonnes of imports, down 16 percent, and 2,939 tonnes of exports, rising 36.4 percent, y-o-y.
Compared to the more dramatic statistic growth rates during the first months of 2011, the May figures now comprise the increase generated by the introduction of DHL Express' daily Boeing 757-200F operation at the airport, launched in April 2010 but taking effect only in May 2010 after the Icelandic volcano eruption earlier that year.
In the first five months of 2011, the airport has seen its total volumes up by 12.7 percent, y-o-y, to 26,676 tonnes of cargo, including 12,977 tonnes of imports, down 0.7 percent, and 12,699 tonnes of exports that grew 30.5 percent over the period.
