Jul 29, 2011 (newstodate): Estonia's Tallinn Airport reported a strong growth in cargo volumes for the fourth consecutive month in June, 2011.
A total of 1,571 tonnes of cargo and mail was handled at the airport, up no less than 127.6 percent, y-o-y.
As in the previous months, the steep increase is seen in the airport's cargo import volumes that were 1,333 tonnes, up 174 percent, y-o-y.
For H1, 2011, the airport's volumes were 7,170 tonnes, increasing 11.7 percent over last year's H1 performance.
While little details are available the significant growth in 2011 probably derives from renewed incoming shipments from China into Tallinn Airport from where the shipments are taken by trucks into the Russian market.
This traffic was put to a halt in early 2010 as the Russian customs inspections barred the borders for the Chinese goods via Estonia.
