Jan 09, 2012 (newstodate): According to the latest revision of FAA Flight Standards Service, published on January 6, 2012, Serbia remains rated as sub-standard in aviation safety.
Serbia's rating as Cat 2 country as to aviation safety keeps airlines registered in the country from establishing flights on routes into the USA, which has otherwise been on the wishing-list for years.
Ukraine was downgraded from Category 1 to Category 2 by FAA in 2005, and remains in this category on the latest list as well.
This means that the Ukrainean carrier Aerosvit's service between Kiev and New York with Boeing 767-300 aircraft since March 30, 2003, can still be operated, but not expanded in frequency, nor supplemented with other new routes into the USA.
The last and third European country on the list with Category 2 classification is Montenegro, while Croatia, downgraded in January 2008, has been lifted off Category 2 and is now again rated in the first category.
