Nov 30, 2012 (newstodate): Kosovo has landed its first direct scheduled non-stop air link to the Gulf region.
Effective from November 29, 2012, Sharjah-based low-cost carrier Air Arabia has introduced flights on the route between Kosovo Pristina Airport and Sharjah Airport, offering two weekly rotations with Airbus A320 aircraft.
The new route is part of the carrier's strategy for expansion into the East European markets.
Time will now show if Air Arabia proves more consistent in its route planning that was the case with the opening of another route into the region - flights to Tuzla, in Bosnia-Herzegovina, from July 4, 2011.
After only a few flights with Airbus A320 aircraft, the service was suspended due to low demand in the market.
Which was also the case with Air Arabia's route to Billund, in Denmark, opened early November 2012 - and to be closed down again with last flight on December 2, 2012 - again citing "low demand in the market".
