Nov 27, 2012 (newstodate): Co-financed by EU funds, Poland's Katowice Airport is to develop its runway infrastructure.
In a first phase to be completed in 2013 the airport' apron area and taxiway system will be expanded and upgraded, and work is also to be started on construction of a new runway in the next phase ending by September 2014.
The new 3,200m runway will be constructed in parallel to the existing 2,800m runway and equipped with an ILS Cat II system and new airfield lighting systems.
In 2011, the airport handled a total of 2,544,124 passengers as well as 10,498 tonnes of air cargo.
