May 23, 2012 (newstodate): Russia's Stavropol Shpakovskoye Airport needs reconstruction, and the German company Hochtief Airport has been selected to lead the process.
The first phases in the master plan for the airport will be presented by mid-June, together with an investment plan.
One crucial element in the reconstruction is the expansion of the currently 2,631m runway to 3,000m, and work on this will be started already in 2012.
Other elements are the construction of a new passenger terminal, a GA terminal, and a cargo terminal during the redevelopment process estimated to run till 2025.
Apart from Russian carrier, Armavia is the only international airline currently serving the destination since 2009.
