Aug 02, 2012 (newstodate): July 2012 brought good news as well as not-so-good news from Sweden's Jonkoping Airport.
The good news is a solid increase in the airport's international cargo volumes by 67 percent, reflecting the sustained good performance by TNT at the airport as well as the recent implementation of TNT's cooperation with time:matters.
TNT Sweden established its regional hub at Jonkoping Airport from June 2, 2008, and since April 10, 2012, TNT and time:matters have cooperated to support time-matters' product, Spare Parts Logistics.
Thus, Farnair is operating an ATR 42-300 freighter on behalf of time:matters, carrying shipments from Baden Airpark, the airport serving Karlsruhe in Germany, to Jonkoping Airport and continuing to Billund Airport, in Denmark, while time:matters' shipments to Oslo and Helsinki are transferred at Jonkoping to TNT flights.
The not-so-good news is that since July 1, 2012, Post Sweden has closed down its postal mini-hub at Jonkoping, continuing only the nightly service to Stockholm Arlanda.
This brought down July's postal volumes by 64 percent, y-o-y.
And since mail has constituted about half of the airport's total cargo volumes, Jonkoping saw its combined cargo and mail volumes down by 15 percent, in July 2012, to 326 tonnes.
