Sep 12, 2012 (newstodate): According to Finavia statistics for August 2012, Finland's Helsinki Vantaa Airport saw an increase by 22.2 percent, y-o-y, in its cargo and mail volumes.
This would mark August the best month in cargo and mail volume so far into 2012.
A total of 16,999 tonnes was handled at the airport, including 16,818 tonnes of international cargo and mail, up 23.1 percent.
Of the international volumes, 16,227 tonnes was cargo, up 26.3 percent, while 591 tonnes was mail, down 27.4 percent, y-o-y.
This brought total cargo and mail volumes handled at the airport during January-August 2012 to 127,676, an increase by 12.2 percent, y-o-y, mainly driven by a 13.2 percent growth in international cargo volumes, to 119,856 tonnes.
Finland's national carrier Finnair has reported a total of 12,693 tonnes of cargo carried in August 2012, dipping one percent, y-o-y, and a total of 99,624 tonnes of cargo, up 5.5 percent, y-o-y, during January-August 2012.
