Feb 26, 2013 (newstodate): Sweden's Stockholm Arlanda Airport may see a new carrier opening flights between Georgia and Sweden in 2013.
Tbilisi-based carrier FlyGeorgia has applied for traffic rights to open up a new route between Tbilisi and Stockholm later this year.
So far no details are available on frequency and start-up date.
-As there is no air services agreement between the two countries, the issue requires extended negotiations between the aviation authorities of Georgia and the Scandinavian countries. These preparations will still require a few weeks, but the carrier has applied for rights to launch services from summer 2013, confirms Annica Jardmark, Sweden's Transportstyrelsen.
According to industry sources, FlyGeorgia is also mulling plans for flights to Vilnius, in Lithuania.
Privately-owned FlyGeorgia took delivery of its first Airbus A319 aircraft on July 28, 2012, and in the fleet are now two Airbus A319 and one Airbus A320 aircraft, with one more of each type on order.
