Feb 21, 2013 (newstodate): ULS and Essenta Logistics in Estonia will soon announce news on the project to develop ex-Tallinn export airfreight on ULS freighters to Istanbul.
-The project is progressing and we expect to be able to break news within a few weeks, says Toomas Orukivi, heading the project.
-In the meantime we are still seeing a sound resumption of incoming flights from Turkey to Tallinn Airport where we now account for about 60 percent of all cargo handled, compared to five percent by TNT, 1.7 percent by Lufthansa and 1.4 percent by Estonian Air.
-We are currently seeing six to seven flights per week by ULS Airbus A310-300F freighters from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport, each carrying some 40 tonnes of cargo, and we expect to grow that volume further.
-So, the project aims at attracting ex-Nordic and Baltic export cargo to fill the outbound freighter flights from Tallinn Airport to Turkey and onwards through agreements with other carriers, says Mr Orukivi.
Normally, ULS operates 35-40 monthly freighters from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport to Tallinn Airport carrying shipments destined for the Russian market.
