Mar 12, 2013 (newstodate): Norsk Helikopterservice has now taken delivery of the first of 16 new Sikorsky S-92 aircraft for use in the North Sea region.
The helicopter was lifted from Stewart International Airport in New York State to Stavanger in Norway on board an AN-124 Ruslan freighter from Antonov Airlines.
The flight was commissioned by the aircraft broker company Aircontact for Norsk Helicopterservice that was set up in 2009, owned by the local management team, together with the Avincis Group.
The aircraft order announced in February 2012 is the largest single purchase of S-92 helicopters to date.
In the version to be delivered to Norsk Helikopterservice, the S-92 Swill feature special equipment and systems necessary for operations in the North Sea region including flotation devices, auto-deployable life rafts, satellite flight following communications and main rotor blade ice protection systems.
