Mar 06, 2013 (newstodate): The Scandinavian LCC Norwegian had pinned its fortunes on the Boeing 787 aircraft to launch its long-awaited intercontinental flights. But the Dreamliner's nightmare has forced the carrier to change its plans.
N0orwegian has placed orders for a total of eight Boeing 787 aircraft, with first deliveries originally slated for this year but currently postponed without a new alternative set.
The start of services to Bangkok and New York by Norwegian will thus rely instead on the lease of two Airbus A340-300 aircraft, delivered on a wet-lease contract with the Portuguese charter and ACMI carrier Hi Fly.
The services to Bangkok will start from May 30, 2013, followed by the launch of flights to New York from June 23, 2013.
Hi Fly currently operates two Airbus A340-300 and has placed orders for a further two, to be delivered in 2013.
